Me, Myself and Her (Io e lei)

Maria Sole Tognazzi 2015 Italy 102min italian s.-t.en

Marina (Sabrina Ferilli) and Federica (Margherita Buy) share a house, share a bed, and share a life. There is only one problem: Federica’s aversion to being open about their relationship. While their close family and friends know about them, colleagues and acquaintances are kept in the dark. Federica works as a successful architect while Marina runs a restaurant, while continually being reminded of the acting career she gave up 15 years prior. When an interview with a local newspaper is followed by an offer of a choice role in a comedy, Marina is forced to decide between her partner’s desire for discretion and her own curiosity of revisiting the career she left behind. Meanwhile, during a chance encounter with a man she had a brief flirtation with years earlier, Federica is forced to confront her own discomfort with her sexuality and Marina’s desire to openly express their love. Me, Myself, & Her deftly navigates the complicated nature of relationships, particularly those where competing interests and desires put even the strongest bonds to the test. – Clinton Glenn
