While cruising at a Paris sex club, Théo (Geoffrey Couët) locks eyes with handsome Hugo (François Nambot). After having sex, they leave together, intending on going back to Hugo’s apartment. However, when Hugo realizes they had sex without a condom, he reveals that he is HIV positive, forcing Théo to seek treatment at a local hospital. Théo refuses to be accompanied by Hugo, but when Hugo shows up, they quickly find out there is more between them than a one-night stand. As they go through the administrative motions to get Théo treatment, their bond begins to grow tighter and they open themselves to each other in ways unexpected. Théo & Hugo plays with the typical one-night romance genre, speaking about the difficulties of serodiscordant relationships and random sex. While some of the subject matter may be difficult, this poignant film treats it with an even hand, and the superb acting helps flesh out two very complicated characters. – Clinton Glenn
